9 Lyndon, VT Lyndon, VT Full-time Full-time $17 - $20 an hour $17 - $20 an hour WATER & WASTEWATER OPERATOR IN TRAINING (OIT) Lyndon, VT THE POSITION The Water & Wastewater Treatment Operator in Training will be under the direct supervision of the Plant Manager and work in Lyndon, VT.
This position accomplishes a variety of duties related to the daily operation of wastewater and water treatment (collection, treatment and distribution).
Hourly position with a minimum of 40 hours per week on site.
THE DAY-TO-DAY Conducts routine testing of wastewater and water as directed, records test results and maintains the plant logbook with accurate and timely entries of activities.
Maintains the facility treatment units to include clarifiers, oxidation ditches equipment, sampling equipment, and pumps.
Identify and report the need for repairs to treatment plant equipment such as pumps, valves, motors, blowers, and chemical feed equipment.
Monitors all charts, gauges and other operating equipment and maintains calibration of plant instrumentation and on-line analyzers according to the frequency specified by permitting agencies and/or the manufacturer.
Calculates chemical feed rates, calibrates chemical equipment and adjusts chemical feed rates as indicated by lab tests or by the direction of the Plant Manager to comply with effluent quality requirements as established for the plant.
Adjusts or alters the chemical treatment of plant processes as required.
Responsible for housekeeping and grounds up-keep including mopping, dusting, mowing and weed trimming.
On-call availability within a 30-minute response time and rotational weekend and holiday duty is required for this position.
Perform other duties as required.
SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES DESIRED Professional:
Minimum required high school diploma or equivalent.
Valid state driver's license with no DUIs and no more than 3 violations in the past three (3) years.
Some technical or mechanical work experience preferred.
Special Skills/Abilities Needed:
Ability to learn wastewater treatment plant operations and obtain appropriate licenses.
Computer skills helpful but not a must, will train right person.
